Brown Dog Book Review :: Figuring Out a Bookstagram Style

Narrowing down a particular aesthetic for my #bookstagram felt more like choosing a favorite type of pie.

I mean, I love so many different pies vibes. And I know for a fact I’m not the only one. So, how do you choose your look when establishing a #bookstagram? How do you narrow down the dominant colors or which bookish-merch you feature? Do you have a pattern of posting, such as (2) flat lays, then a selfie – so on, so forth?

In the end, I went with my gut and worked with the same style/s I choose in my home: plants, wood, old bottles, vintage farm tools, eclectic collections, etc.

Truth is, I think it’s a little unfair that a #bookstagram has to “flow” but that does seem like the name of the game. The more your ‘gram moves in synchronized scheme  = the more likes get tapped.

Here’s essentially what I came up with that corresponded with my personality and the things I love:

Discussion

Talk to me about your #bookstagram or (if you don’t have one) some of your favorites. Did you struggle picking a “theme” or do you just post what you’re feeling? Are you drawn to a certain style of book photo? Is there a particular piece you ALWAYS feature in a book flatlay? Favorite background?

  1. I love your theme! It’s both simple and gorgeous. :3 I really struggle with the theme, because I don’t have anything I can really use as “props,” and not many places I can actually take pictures. So I went with simple flowers and a wood backdrop. I’m still trying to figure out the whole Instagram thing, though. xD It’s not as easy to fall into as I had hoped. I love your pics, though!

    • I totally agree with the whole “not as easy” concept. I thought (innocently) that it would be pretty easy to walk in and gain a following. WRONG, Brianna. Wrong. It’s a lot of work.

I LOVE your photos. They always have such fun pops of color.

      I knit-pick everything I photograph/post. I think I over-think it too much. One of these days I’ll learn! ❤

      • Ahaha, I feel that at my core. xD I talked with so many book bloggers who were also using IG, and they were basically like, “Oh, I dunno, people just followed me,” pretty much, so I was like … cool, I can do that. Nope. Not how it works. Not how it works at all. xD

Thank you! I’m not a visual person, so it’s always a struggle for me, but I feel like I learn a little bit every time.
